The article aims to investigate the concept of the unconscious for Historical-Cultural Psychology, through a theoretical-conceptual analysis of the subject in the work of A. N. Leontiev. For the author, what is not recognized or understood by the subject is not separate from consciousness but merely presents a difference in the quality of the reflection in the psyche. Four classes of phenomena were analyzed, which refer to unconscious manifestations of the psychic reflection. Namely, 1) the field of perception and the field of consciousness: the narrowness of consciousness; 2) the structure of activity and unconscious motives; 3) operations and automations; and 4) the relationship between senses and meanings: the problems of consciousness. It was found that Leontiev brings important contributions to the understanding of the unconscious, considering his formulations of theory of activity, which emphasizes how the movement of the activity structure mobilizes the dynamic between the conscious and unconscious aspects of the psyche.
